On May 5, 2017 the Aqua Lynx Swim Club was treated with a special invitation. Dara Torres, 5-time Olympic swimmer, visited Lincoln and the campus of Lincoln College while preparing to receive an Honorary Degree during the Lincoln College 2017 Commencement Ceremony. Torres was kind enough to share some time before her scheduled open house panel discussion, when she came to the Lincoln College Natatorium to speak with members of the Lincoln College Swimming and Diving team. In the kindest gesture possible, Lincoln College coach Johnathan Jordan extended an invitation to the Aqua Lynx Swim Club to join the audience for the this time. Although it fell during a week day, there were a few schools which let out early allowing some of our swimmers to attend.
Dara spoke about her time during each of the 5 Olympics in which she competed, starting in 1984 and culminating in 2008. Thousands of yards, eating the right diet, strength training and stretching, and nerves before competing...topics of complaint reardless of age or skill level!!! Torres added that when the time comes, as you walk out on deck whether in front of 100 people or 10,000 people, it is all about having fun in the water!!!
Thank you Dara Torres for the inspiration!
And Thank You Coach Jordan and Lincoln College for the opportunity!
